Alan tried to ignore the television cameras and concentrate on his shot. Holding the golf club straight out, he dropped it into the dirt and pondered the most efficient way to strike the ball. Instead of using a sand wedge, he chose a specially designed six iron. With complete concentration, he gripped the club firmly in one hand and gave the club a hard swing. The club dug deep into the dirt, sending the ball skittering just several yards. Undaunted, he dropped a second ball, swung and again the club head was off line, which caused the ball to go only a short distance. Finally, he dropped a third ball and drove it long and straight. "Out of this world," murmured his partner. Many golf reporters, analysts and spectators described these three shots as the greatest shots the game of golf has ever known. Why?
